San Pietro in Montorio, Bramante’s Temple and the Acqua Paola Fountain

A place that defies time, a breathtaking terrace overlooking the Eternal City and three architectural wonders in a single itinerary: the church of San Pietro in Montorio, Bramante’s famous Tempietto and the monumental Fontanone del Gianicolo.

On the slopes of the Gianicolo, where according to tradition St. Peter was crucified upside down, stands the church of San Pietro in Montorio. Behind its elegant Renaissance façade, supported by the Catholic Monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand, lies a veritable treasure trove of art. Among its chapels, you can admire two absolute masterpieces of the Roman Renaissance: the Flagellation and the Transfiguration by Sebastiano del Piombo, intense works that bear witness to the profound dialogue between painting and spirituality.
In the cloister stands the absolute jewel of the Italian Renaissance: Bramante’s Tempietto. Small but perfect, built between 1502 and 1509, it was designed to encapsulate the classical ideal of beauty in architectural form. This masterpiece inspired entire generations of architects, from Palladio to Serlio, and still enchants today with its sixteen columns, its central form and its timeless harmony.
The tour ends with a picture-postcard view: the Acqua Paola Fountain, a Baroque emblem and symbol beloved by Romans. Commissioned by Pope Paul V in the 17th century to bring water to the Janiculum Hill, the fountain is now a visual and cultural icon, immortalised in cinema and music, from “The Great Beauty” to “Roma Capoccia”.

A unique opportunity to discover three extraordinary places, where art, faith and panorama come together in one of the most evocative settings in the capital.
